How to Choose Sliding Door Hardware in 6 Simple Steps

Have you ever wanted to mount a sliding door but weren’t exactly sure what hardware you needed and how to fit them together? We're here to help!

For the easiest way visit our Sliding Door Kit Builder, which will guide you through the process, or you can read on.

There are 6 key components in a Sliding Door

1)     Track

The sliding Door track length is normally twice the width of the door opening. For example the door opening is 3m and the door weighs 80kg, the #5305 6m 100kg galvanised track .

2)   Mounting Brackets

You can choose vertical or horizontal brackets to fix your sliding door track to the wall. The number of brackets required is based on the track length. Pay attention to the recommending bracket spacing of each bracket.

3)   Hangers & Fixing Plates

Nylon wheels are most suitable for indoor use and in environments that are prone to corrosion. Fixing plates are used to install the hangers to the doors. Metal Doors don’t usually need fixing plates, since the hanger bolt is usually drilled directly to the frame of the metal door.

4)    Door Stops

Stops limit the sliding doors movement and act as a buffer. A stop inside the track is normally used, which stops the movement by hitting the body of the hanger or trolley wheels. In other cases, a wall stop can be used, which stops the doors movement by hitting the sliding door. Please note bolts should not be used as stops as they damage the bearing or trolley wheels of the hanger.

5)   Bottom Guide

A bottom guide is essential for the correct functionality of the door as it prevents the door from swinging side to side. Bottom guides are usually installed on the floor or wall. A bottom guide usually moves in the door groove or in the bottom guide channel, which is fixed into the door groove.

6)   Accessories

End caps cover the ends, finishing the tracks stylish design.

Soft Close smoothly closes the door.

With a Low headroom plate, you can adjust the gap between the track and the door.
